The Citizen Committee for the Rescue of Hostages and Political Prisoners of Tajikistan respectfully asks you to seriously consider the violation of human rights in Tajikistan, as the situation in Tajikistan remains tragic and worries the Committee for the Rescue of Political Prisoners and Hostages. We know that the international community is not neutral in the case of Tajikistan. Finally, the request of Ben Cardin, the chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Mary Lawlor, special rapporteur on human rights, Fernand de Varenne, UN rapporteur on minority affairs, 8 UN experts, several high-ranking representatives of the European Union, as well as the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, Human Rights Watch People, Freedom For Eurasia and Freedom NOW gave us hope that the Government of Tajikistan will realize its mistake and put an end to the violation of human rights. Unfortunately, Tajikistan does not consider the request of the UN or any request of the European Union, and on the contrary, with the money allocated by the European Union for the fight against terrorism, it imprisons and tortures innocent citizens on false charges, and they think they are right.
An example of this is the annual meeting in Geneva. On the part of Tajikistan, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Abdurrahman Alamshohzoda, who was involved in the peaceful killing of the people of Rushan, took part in this meeting. During her speech, reporter Rangita de Silva expressed concern about the arrest of several women journalists and human rights defenders, including the Polish journalist and human rights defender Ulfathonim Mamadshoeva. Abdurrahman Alamshozoda accused Ulfathonim Mahmadshoeva that she used social networks to insult people and also sold the secrets of the Tajik government to foreigners. Of course, all human rights organizations know that this argument of Alamshozade is baseless. Also, everyone knows that in Tajikistan, every detainee bears all the sins he did not commit under severe torture.
Dear international human rights organizations and representatives of diplomatic corps, this is the reason for our appeal. We remind you that before Alamshohzoda arrived in Dushanbe, the authorities invited the journalist’s mother, Anora Sarkorova, for interrogation. Anora Sarkorova, who covered the Pamir events daily, was harassed by the authorities. As this reporter is outside Tajikistan, the authorities have targeted her elderly mother in order to put pressure on her, and this is the second time they have called her to the authorities and demanded the return of her daughter. They ask her mother to influence her daughter so that she returns to Tajikistan and apologizes to President Rahmon and asks forgiveness for her sins. When writing the word of truth is considered a sin for the Tajik government, isn’t it spitting on democracy and international human rights laws? You are a witness that Rahmon does not take anyone’s requests into account. Today, for the release of imprisoned journalists and human rights defenders, to reduce torture in prisons, not only our hands, but also your hands are being shortened. This is why we, the members of this committee, ask you to step in and together prevent the fate of Ulfatkhonim Mamadshoeva and hundreds of political prisoners like her from being repeated.
We are sure that only strict demands, refraining from any cooperation with Rahmon’s government, depriving him humanitarian aid from the European Union and introducing sanctions against him will weaken the foundation of his government. We believe that in this way a solid step will be taken in the protection of human rights in Tajikistan.
