The Honorable president
The National Committee for the Release of Political Hostages and Prisoners of Tajikistan through this letter expresses its deep concern that on October 10 of this year, Emomali Rahmon, the President of Tajikistan, made you an accomplice in his crime.
The leader of the political movement of the «Group 24», Suhrob Zafar and an active member of this group Nasimjon Sharifov disappeared in the city of Istanbul, Turkey, early this year. They were found in Tajikistan and Suhrob Zafar sentenced to 30 years in prison, and Nasimjon Sharifov to 20 years.
These two opponents of the Rahmon’s regime considered your country as a safe place for themselves and lived there since 2015. Although the founder and leader of this movement, Umarali Quvvatov was brutally murdered on March 5, 2015, in the heart of Istanbul. With all this, these two political activists hoped for your support and protection, by fighting for the principle that «the Muslim believer is the brother of another believer». These two young men have not committed any crime in Turkey and their names are not registered anywhere, as criminals. As a Muslim leader you are always defending the oppressed once on world stages, including your last speech (in September 2024) at the UN Summit.
On the other hand, the government of Emomali Rahmon oppresses Muslims and human values in Tajikistan. Now, who should raise a voice against corruption and theft of Rahmon’s regime and his clan? The political opponents of Rahmon have the right to raise their voices against this injustice. The world knows Rahmon’s oppression and betrayal today, and his regime name will remain in history as the most treacherous president. If history writes about the «Group 24» political movement, it will definitely be written that the leader of this group, Umarali Kuvbatov, was killed in Turkey, as well as two members of this group in this country, a democratic and law-abiding country, in broad daylight were kidnapped. It will go down in history that all this happened under your leadership Mr President.
Dear President Tayyip Erdoğan
You may admit that you had no idea about all this; You did not know that Nasimjon Sharifov went missing in Turkey on February 23, 2024. Nasimjan’s phone was active until March 10, when Suhrab Zafar disappeared and for a few more days. If the power structures of your country did not have a hand in this matter and quarreled with the government of Tajikistan, they would have released Nasimjon and Suhrob, as they had been arrested and proven innocent.
This time, it is known what secret exchange took place with Rahmon, and these people were freely transferred from Turkey to Tajikistan without any formalities through the «Somon-Air» airlines. In other words, Turkey is also involved in the kidnapping of these two people, on the outskirts of Tajikistan.
Our committee reminds that if this work was done on the basis of the law, the Turkish media would have written about it, and the state of Tajikistan would have announced that two «Tajik criminals» had been transferred by Turkey to Tajikistan. Because the General Prosecutor of Tajikistan, Yusuf Rahmon, admitted after 6 months that they are in the hands of the power structures in Tajikistan. During these 6 months, none of the relatives of these two people knew whether they were in Turkey or Tajikistan.
We are concerned about the fact that these two people lived in Turkey for more than 10 years alongside the people of this country, in a peaceful atmosphere and followed the laws of this country, and they did not do anything contrary to the laws of this country. Nasimjon Sharifov and Suhrab Zafar felt safe and secure in Turkey. The only «crime» that may have been committed by these two people is the work based on the principles of «Faith, Honor, Freedom, Equality», which is the slogan of the «Group 24» political movement.
Dear President
We must say that the «Group 24» political movement was persecuted by the dictatorial and corrupt regime of Rahmon precisely for these principles. These freedom-loving youths are committed to the pursuit of the dreams of the founder and leader of this Movement, Umarali Quvvatov, who was killed in your country by the order of Rahmon’s regime. If Rahmon had observed equality in Tajikistan, he would not have sent his son-in-law as an ambassador to your country. If you did not want to become an accomplice of Rahmon’s crime, you would not have accepted his son-in-law as an ambassador and would not have cooperated with Rahmon to persecute the opposition.
Today, both the UN and European countries recognize Turkey as a free and democratic country. Therefore, this principle should be adhered to.
According to the information received by us, several other people are currently in Turkish detention centers awaiting extradition to Tajikistan. Innocent people who raised their voice for justice and human values. The request of the members of the committee is that the mistake made by Turkey regarding the abduction and extradition of Nasimjan Sharifov and Suhrab Zafar should not be repeated.
Our other request is that the people involved in the delivery of these two people to Tajikistan should be held criminally responsible.
We hope that you will consider our request and will not cooperate with Rahmon’s regime again.
Tajik people are creative and this has been proven many times in history. It is Rahmon who presents this ancient nation, which has had a friendly relationship with the Turkish nation for centuries, as a terrorist in the world, in order to implement his wishes and be financed by other countries. We believe that the introduction of visas between Tajikistan and Turkey took place after mistrust of Tajiks.
You should not see a terrorist in the faces of the Tajik people, the terrorist today is Rahmon, who brought his people to this state and everyone dreams of escaping from Tajikistan. The relationship with the neighboring countries is also evidence of Rahmon’s greed, and you should understand this as the leader of a country.
We know that Nasimjon Sharifov and Sohrab Zafar, who innocently received long sentences behind closed doors and hidden from the eyes of the public, will not be saved from the hands of this oppressive regime. However, we ask you not to be deceived by this regime and not to be an accomplice in their crimes.
